HI Guys

I have a pop up fuel cap with the rubber gasket and the spring that pushes
against it to keep it tight. the rubber looks old and doesn't have a tight
fit against the filler neck. Any solutions for this problem? I thought I
had heard a solution of gutting the spring and rubber gasket and using twist
cap on the the filler neck. Again always

Thanks for the Help

Disassemble the spring from the cap and use a twist on cap under the pop-open. I replaced my pop-open with a repro and the new one came that way: unassembled and even included a twist on cap. The reason being that these caps did not seal well even when new.

They are not supposed to seal well because that is the tanks vent to atmosphere. (We don't need no stinken pollution controls!) You should notice a small dent in the filler tube surface. That is all that stands between you and a "sucked in" gas tank bottom. (at least that is the way it is on a 68)
