Last night i pulled up next to a 96 gt with 17" saleens and an s351 wing at a stoplight. So i look at him and he looks back. We both took off normal then i hear him floor it, so i floor it to. By third i had a car on him. Then we were both driving at about 20 and we get ready to race from a roll. He honks 3 times and we both take off. By the end of 3rd i had 2 cars on him and i shut down because he doesnt look like hes catching up.

Are the 4.6s really that slow, or is the driver hella crappy?

The stock 96-98 4.6 SOHC is a mid 15 sec car at best. Every once in a while you might find a factory freak that runs low 15s but on street tires they are a mid 15 sec car. My 96 that I used to have, on street tires and stock, ran 15.4 @ 94 with 2.3-2.4 60s. If you can get traction in them they will do better. But that's the same with any stang. I might add that my 96 was the stripped version (248A Package) like the GTS. Weighed in around 3200 pounds and a 5-speed with 2.73's.

Every 96-98 4.6 that I have ever been in/driven (about 3 or 4) has pretty much been a dog. I know both car were rated about the same from the factory, but I would bet the difference lies in the power curves, the 4.6 just don't seem to have the same twist down low. Not to mention how much easier and cheaper it is to mod our cars.

A stock 96-98 is the slowest V8 Mustang in recent memory. The 4.6L is handicapped by its cute little bore. On a 2V, it's hard to get enough airflow. I'd like to see Ford come out with a 5.0L cammer with the same bore/stroke as the 302.

Stock 96-98 4.6 is slow than hell , I been racing 5 speed coupe and I beat him , (I have heavy vert 3900 lb and 5 speed)
Plus 99 up 4.6 GT isn't that fast eather , I have few races and I beat few times )
5.0 is way to go

I think the newer 4.6 is pretty cool with technology. 287 horse i think? Dual cam, right? All's i know is that my friend and i call it the "hemi head" mustang cuz the heads look huge in the mustang. I think a little of that dual cam technology in the famous 5.0 would be great!

some guy in the other forum about the tailights claims a 13.774 with Pullies, Filter, X-Pipe, Mufflers and a Chip. he even has the slips to prove it. that sounds faster then my car, is this :bs: ?
That's doable. Any car can be fast, it's the driver that gets good ET's. Mid-13's for a 99+ 4.6L with every single bolt-on and drag radials is typical with a decent driver.

You must be thinking about the DOHC cobras. The 96-98 4.6 are rated at 215 hp, and are not DOHC

Perhaps, or not. We can make all the airflow we need with just 2 valves. There are 4 valve heads that have been created for the 5.0L, but they're pointless. I'm not convinced at this point that any of the current modular technology is an improvement over pushrod. Different, yes, but better? ...
