DIY air to air intercooler on Kenne Bell for 92 LX

  1. I get what your saying but I'm reminded how little gain you get in boost (actual psi) vs. temperature when you spin outside of the efficiency range. It's compounded with PD blowers in that one revolution displaces (in this case) 2.1L of air. The faster you spin, the more effect there is on that displacement (it becomes less and less the higher you go, of course) and the heat increase and air displaced are no longer proportional.

    To the OP:

I dunno... Had I the time and talent to do what you have done, I don't think I could even consider adding meth. That intercooler would be my reason for NOT using it. ;)

Either way... I am looking forward to seeing the results though. :) Keep the writeups coming! :nice:
  2. This time around to start I'm spraying after the blower one nozzle and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.
  3. I don’t disagree. Once you spin the blower out of its efficiency range, horsepower vs boost gains are going to fall dramatically, (due more to airflow cavitation I would guess than temperature increase)?

It's not all negative however. The rate at which the blower ramps up to speed increases dramatically. Torque and horsepower come on so much harder and faster...even if they're drop off more quickly in the upper ranges.

    This would explain his 550lbs ft/tq @ 2,000RPM output.

The little Eaton on my Cougar was a real beast for such a small blower (90ci) when I added the 2.35" pulley to the mix. Even if the car itself didn't make all that much horsepower.
  4. Well said, your point in that the early increas in boost in which both the compressor and the motor are in there max efficiency range will benefit most. This setup is not a peak HP setup at this point and the added boost will only increase that low end power. I will end the dyno run at 5800 instead of 6000 since that is where HP starts dropping and spinning beyond that is fruitless.
  5. Trudat... I hadn't really thought about early boost benefit. I mean... aside from the track, you really don't spend a whole lot of time bouncing off the RPM ceiling anyway.
  6. How's traction on the street? I'd imagine 1st and 2nd are pretty useless.
  7. Man, it sounds fantastic. Stepping on the gas must be like setting off a grenade with that instantaneous torque curve.
  8. LOL....yes, it's like a controled explosion foot activated.
  9. I mean, outside of a diesel, I don't know if I've ever seen that much torque that early in the RPM band. With some traction, your car would probably make for a great tow vehicle, haha.
  10. Mmmmmmm....Torque feels good!!:D
  11. Updates?

Weren't you talking about putting out a kit at some time? I think I'm on the waiting list. :D
  12. Maybe I could sqeeze one in this winter. Do you have a KB intake you could send me if I can take the job.
  13. If you're able to do it, I'll ORDER one if I have to!
  14. I'll have and update for this thread. Saturday I hit the Dyno again with 4 more psi, total 15PSI and meth injection is back in the game.

You may have a hard time getting one from KB, but if you don't run your car in the winter you could take it off and send it to me.
  15. I'll give them a call and find out what the deal is. I recently sold (gave away, pretty much) all the manifolds from the Blowzilla setup when I went to the Flowzilla setup. They basically just sent me a box containing two manifolds and the smalle pieces/parts necessary for the conversion. That makes me think that I should be able to order a manifold, but I'll find out for sure.

If I can't then yeah... I'll send the one that I have installed. I have to pull the blower off to do my clutch swap and brake conversion anyway.

Air to Air on a Fox KB.
  16. Your car is perfect, in every way. Want to donate it to me?
  17. Thanks man.....How about wse trade:rlaugh:
  18. Very awesome job on everything. Makes me wonder if it's something I'd be able to do down the road on my car once the KB goes on... Not sure if the piping would fit on the SN95 though. Maybe if I did the Fox TB swap... Something to shoot for I guess.
