You're such a nice guy though.I'd drop by to take a look and talk to him in person
Go recover your property. Maybe give the local police a heads up call before you go, request that they are present, if they decline, at least they will know you are serious about recovering YOUR property, especially if they end up showing up due to things escalating...
I wouldn't give the guy another penny after year of incomplete work... just me though... might not be the easiest way to deal with the situation...
it's that, or get a lawyer, but that could drag out for even longer.
Even nice guys can have enough of it.You're such a nice guy though.

And even decent upholstery shops were overbooked and on their own odd time clocks long before things hit the fan.Yeah but there’s such a thing as escalating too quickly.
Before you go in guns blazing with threats of legal action, should place the nice guy card first and actually see if that’s warranted.
I know many shops/businesses up to their eyeballs in work and short staffed. I’d like to see if that’s the case here, or it really is negligence and really does need escalation.
That reminds me of the car salesmen who asks for YOUR car keys to " show you are serious" about the car your dealing on, then toss them on the buildings roof.....Reminds me of when I used to work on cars in a big parking lot in Baltimore. I had a helper that would take one wheel off every car. ( mainly brake jobs )This way they couldn't leave while I was working on a car that came before them. The deposit kinda makes people stuck at that shop like taking one wheel off.

I can't believe they still do that..... My last Truck purchase went so well It amazed me......Had a guy pull that on me last week.
Didn’t toss them on the roof, but “can’t track down my tech who has your keys”
This is why anytime I look to trade in a car I give them the spare key and keep mine. Then if they try to pull shady crap I set a 3 minute timer on my phone and tell them that when it goes off if I don't have my key back I'm going to leave with my other key, make a huge scene, and they will have 2 days to have my key in my mailbox. I do not play those games with dealers...Had a guy pull that on me last week.
